Building a world-class clinical team to realize the promise of digital medicine

At Big Health, our mission is to help millions back to good mental health. It’s the north star for everything that we do, and we continue to make immense progress. Today, approximately 10 million people have access to our evidence based digital therapeutics (DTx), Sleepio and Daylight, for poor sleep and worry and anxiety, through leading employers including: Boston Medical Center, Delta Airlines, and The Hartford, among others, and we have pioneered innovative strategic collaborations with CVS Health and the National Health Service (NHS).

We are proud of our continued momentum, and as the company scales and the industry evolves, we recognize the importance of growing our world-class team to cover the broader clinical, research, and medical affairs domains. To that end, I am proud to announce two significant moves to further bolster our clinical leadership and deliver on the immense opportunities ahead.

First, Dr. Jenna Carl has been named Big Health’s Chief Medical Officer. Having joined the company in 2016 and most recently serving as Vice President of Clinical Development & Medical Affairs, Dr. Carl continues to be instrumental in building Big Health’s clinical operations and functions. In her new position, Dr. Carl will take a greater leadership role in clinical development, research, medical affairs, regulatory, and quality functions. Serving as the company’s clinical lead, Dr. Carl will be closely integrated into our commercial and product organizations, ensuring continued growth and adoption across all stakeholders including members, employers, and health plans. As made evident by her impact across the business over the past five years, Dr. Carl is the perfect candidate for this role.

In addition, Dr. Colin Espie will now serve as Big Health’s Chief Scientist. After co-founding the company together, and serving as Chief Medical Officer since the outset, this new role will enable Dr. Espie to focus on advocating for the provision of evidence-based psychological therapies as first line mental health care. As a world-renowned clinical psychologist and sleep expert, Dr. Espie has published over 300 scientific papers along with establishing the University of Oxford’s Experimental & Clinical Sleep Medicine research program. Now, as the DTx industry continues to grow and evolve, Dr. Espie can spend more time applying his expertise to solidify industry research standards, and establish the trust of academic, clinical, and healthcare stakeholders.

As we look towards the future, these leadership advancements will further support our mission of helping millions to good mental health. With Dr. Espie and Dr. Carl at the helm, we are one step closer to realizing the promise of digital medicine.
